we bought our first home. a townhome actually.
it all came about rather quickly and unexpectedly, but everything really just fell into place and it felt so right.
after my car was hit and totaled back at the end of march, we started looking for a new car. we looked and looked and saw some things, but we weren't super jazzed about anything and couldn't bring ourselves to make a decision. then one day i went to see matt on my lunch break. i walked in and sat down and he immediately told me, "i have an idea!"
to which i responded..."about a car?" and he said "a house".

matt then suggested that we hold off on getting a new car and instead, use the money we got for the total for a down payment on a house.

mind you, we had decided a month or so before to start seriously saving for a down payment for a house. we were both getting tired of the apartment life and wanted something of our own, and something we would want to bring a family home to.
we had recently told our friends that if any of the townhomes in their neighborhood opened up, we'd be interested in that area. probably within a week, he called us up to tell us there was a family in his ward who was going to be building a new house, their place wasn't on the market, but we could come and take a look. and that's basically the end of the story haha.
we went and looked a week later, talked to a lender, made an offer, and then we were just waiting until it was time to close!

now? now we're home owners! we closed about 2 weeks ago. {it was a little anticlimactic because we aren't actually moving in until the end of august} everything could not have worked out better i think. the other family is renting from us through the end of august since they're still building, and we're in our apartment contract until then. so win win. no double payments, everyone has somewhere to live, and in the meantime we're landlords and homeowners in one fell swoop!

now we just wait until the end of august. and you guys, we can't wait! thinking about how we want to decorate and paint and make it our home. our first REAL home.
it's pretty dang exciting!
